  • The Arunachal Pradesh Government announced that it would soon replace the health insurance scheme conceived by the previous regime with a new one.
  • The new Chief Minister’s Arogya Arunachal Yojana (CMAAY) will enable citizens to avail cashless health services in empanelled hospitals.
  • Once launched, the scheme will offer healthcare services of up to Rs 5 lakh per family per year.
  • The vision is to accord quality and cashless healthcare services to the people of the state envisaging universal health care to all by 2020.

  • June quarter results declared, showed HCL Technologies’s revenue totalled $2.05 billion, more than Wipro’s $2.03 billion.
  • Last year, Wipro’s full-year revenue totalled $8.06 billion, about $220 million more than HCL Technologies’ $7.84 billion.

Mahila Shakti Kendra Scheme to empower rural women

  • Government of India has approved a new scheme namely Mahila Shakti Kendra for implementation during 2017-18 upto 2019-20 to empower rural women through community participation.
  • The Scheme is implemented with cost sharing ratio of 60:40 between centre and states except for North East and Special Category States where the ratio is 90:10.
  • The scheme is envisaged to work at various levels and at the national level and state level technical support to the respective governments on issues related to women is provided.

  • All the 13 lakh employees of the Indian Railways will take turns to swear an oath publicly to “bring about integrity” and “eradicate corruption”.
  • Termed “Mission Satyanishtha”, the program will involve railway men attending formal training course on probity and integrity in public life.
  • Railway Board members and all senior officers of the ministry will swear the oath of ethics and integrity.

5. Gujarat govt. announces sanitation policy

  • The Gujarat government came out with an ‘Urban Sanitation and Cleanliness Policy’ for better management of solid and liquid waste in cities.
  • Among other things, the policy aims at complete abolition of manual scavenging.
  • A system to convert solid waste into fuel to generate “green energy” will be set up.

6. 6th India-UK Science & Innovation Council (SIC) Meeting

  • The 6th India-UK Science & Innovation Council (SIC) meeting held in New Delhi discussed a range of issues on S&T cooperation between the two countries.
  • Dr. Harsh Vardhan expressed the need to establish few more Network Centers in areas such as Cyber Physical System- Artificial Intelligence, digital Economy, health technologies, cyber security and promoting clean growth, smart urbanization, future mobility and environment.

  • Raksha Rajya Mantri (RRM) Dr. Subhash Bhamre inaugurated a two-day Air Defence India – 2018 Seminar & Exhibition, organised by Centre for Joint Warfare Studies (CENJOWS) in New Delhi.
  • Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Bhamre said the term ‘Air Defence’ implies defence operations but it is an important operational function which helps our Strike Corps to be offensive and the Air Force to act with impunity.

  • The Indian women’s compound archery team has been ranked as the No. 1 team in the latest world rankings.
  • The team, which comprises of V. Jyothi Surekha, Trisha Deb, P. Lily Chanu, Muskan Kirar, Divya Dhayal, and Madhumita, reached the top spot with 342.6 points.
  • World Archery Association also announced the rank in compound mixed team and India bagged fifth rank in world rankings.

  • The world’s oldest person, a 117-year-old Japanese woman, has died.
  • Miyako, born on May 2, 1901, became the world’s oldest person in April after Nabi Tajima from the Kikai Island in southern Japan died at age 117.
  • Guinness said the successor to her world record is yet to be confirmed.

  • SoftBank announced partnership with Paytm to launch a payments service in Japan.
  • The service would be launched by SoftBank’s joint venture company PayPay (with Yahoo Japan). This was established in June 2018.
  • It would utilise Paytm’s technology and expertise in mobile payments.
  • This will promote cashless payment in Japan.

  • The Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) has been selected for the Champion of Earth Prize-2018.
  • Cochin Airport a first in the world to be fully powered by solar energy.
  • By September 2018, the solar capacity at CIAL will be increased to 40 MWp.
  • It will give 60 million units per annum power and save Rs.40 crore per annum of the airport.
  • This will also avoid CO2 emissions by more than 9 lakh metric tons over the next 25 years equivalent to planting 90 lakh trees.
