  • Ministry of Home Affairs sponsored Student Police Cadet (SPC) Programme was launched nationally by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in Gurugram, Haryana.
  • The programme aims at building bridge between Police and larger community through school students by inculcating values and ethics in them through classes in school and outside.
  • Total cost of the programme is Rs.67 crore where each school will be handed Rs.50,000 for educational aids, training and contingency.

  • Science & Technology, Earth Sciences, Environment, Forest & Climate Change Minister Dr.Harsh Vardhan inaugurated first of its kind Air Quality and Weather Forecast System– SAFAR (System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting) at Chandni Chowk in Delhi.                                                                                                                       
  • It is a giant true color LED display that gives out real-time air quality index on a daily basis.
  • It has been developed indigenously by Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune and operationalized by India Meteorological Department (IMD).                                                                                            
  • It will be an integral part of India’s first Air Quality Early Warning System.                                                                       
  • It will be implemented in four cities of India – Delhi, Pune, Mumbai and Ahmedabad as an operational service.

  • The Sports Authority of India (SAI) shortlisted 734 young players for a scholarship programme under the KHELO INDIA Talent Identification Development Scheme.
  • The names were finalized by SAI’s High Powered Committee (HPC) after due diligence.
  • KHELO India Programme, headquartered at New Delhi, acts as a tool for individual development, community development, economic development and national development.
  • The programme would cover about 200 million children in the age group of 10-18 under a massive national physical fitness drive.
  • An annual stipend of Rs. 1.2 lakhs will be given to the players on a quarterly basis.

6. Kerala has emerged as the best governed state in India says PAI

  • According to the Public Affairs Index (PAI) 2018 released by the Public Affairs Centre (PAC) Kerala stands as the best-governed state in the country.
  • Tamil Nadu secured second place followed by Telangana, Karnataka and Gujarat.
  • The ranking is based on factors such as the quality of governance employed 10 themes, 30 focus subjects and 100 indicators including essential infrastructure, which comprises power, water, roads and communication and housing.
  • Public Affairs Centre (PAC) PAC is a not-for-profit research think tank situated in Bengaluru, Karnataka.

  • 2+2 Dialogue between India and US was agreed during visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to US in June, 2017.
  • It is similar to India-Japan 2+2 dialogue format between foreign and defence secretaries and ministers of the two countries.

  • The GST Council in its 28th meeting has recommended certain amendments in the CGST Act, IGST Act, UTGST Act and the GST (Compensation to States) Act.
  • The major recommendations are
  1. Upper limit of turnover for opting for composition scheme to be raised from Rs. 1 crore to Rs. 1.5 crore.
  2. Present limit of turnover can now be raised on the recommendations of the Council.
  3. Composition dealers to be allowed to supply services (other than restaurant services), for upto a value not exceeding 10% of turnover in the preceding financial year, or Rs. 5 lakhs, whichever is higher.
  4. The threshold exemption limit for registration in the States of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Sikkim and Uttarakhand to be increased to Rs. 20 Lakhs from Rs. 10 Lakhs.

  • Federal Bank has obtained the regulatory nod from RBI (Reserve Bank of India) to open offices in Bahrain, Kuwait and Singapore.
  • The bank is currently awaiting local clearances to start operations. It already has representative offices in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
  • It plans to focus on the digital alternatives to reach out to more customers and also on the unsecured lending segment, where it stands at Rs 380 crore currently.
