  • The Union Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh co-chaired the 6th meeting of the Home Minister level talks with his Bangladesh counterpart, Mr. Asaduzzaman Khan in Dhaka.
  • During the meeting, all security related matters of interest including counter-terrorism, capacity building and increased cooperation between security agencies, border management, countering illegal activities like fake currency, drug and human trafficking, consular issues etc. were discussed.

  • ISRO successfully performed a ground test of its high thrust version of the Vikas Engine that will enhance the payload capability of ISRO’s launch vehicles, at the ISRO Propulsion Complex (IPRC) in Mahendragiri, Tirunelveli district, Tamil Nadu.
  • The test was conducted for a duration of 195 seconds.
  • The Vikas Engine is the workhorse liquid rocket engine used for powering the second stage of the ISRO’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV).
  • It is also used in the second stage and the four strap on stages of Geosynchronous Launch Vehicle (GSLV) and in the twin engine core liquid stage (L110) of GSLV Mk-III.

  • This test was done under extreme weather conditions like high speed wind against the missile system and various other extreme conditions.
  • The success of the test increased the life of the missile by 2 to 5 years.
  • Range of the missile: up to 290km with supersonic speed.
  • Cruising speed: up to Mach 3.0 that is 3 times the speed of sound.

11. Government constitutes 10-member committee to review offences under Companies Act, 2013

  • The Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) has constituted a 10 Member Committee to review the penal provisions in the Companies Act, 2013 headed by the secretary of MCA Injeti Srinivas.
  • The Commerce Ministry seeks to review offences under the Companies Act, 2013, as some of the offences may be required to be decriminalised and handled in an in-house mechanism, where a penalty could be levied in instances of default.
  • The decision will allow the trial courts to pay more attention on offences of serious nature.

  • Economic Affairs Secretary Subhash Chandra Garg said that, Life Insurance Corporation of India’s (LIC’s) board has approved acquiring up to 51 % stake in IDBI Bank.
  • Subhash Chandra Garg is on the board of LIC.
  • He said that, the additional stake buy would be through a preferential shares issue that will enable injection of funds to IDBI Bank.
  • LIC will now approach SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India).
  • IRDAI has already approved LIC for the stake purchase.
